Formula 1 returns to Türkiye in 2027 after six-year hiatus

Formula 1 will return to Türkiye in 2027 as the Turkish Grand Prix is added to the official calendar. Istanbul Park will host the prestigious motorsport event for the 10th time, ending a six-year absence. The circuit previously hosted races between 2005-2011 and 2020-2021.
Formula 1 is set to return to Türkiye after a six-year break, with the Turkish Grand Prix officially included on the 2027 calendar. Istanbul Park, the 5.3-kilometer circuit that has hosted nine previous F1 races, will welcome the world’s premier motorsport series for the 10th time. The return ends a long wait for Turkish fans who have missed the roar of F1 engines since the last race in 2021.
History of the Turkish Grand Prix
The Turkish Grand Prix first joined the F1 calendar in 2005 and was held consecutively until 2011. It made a comeback during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the 2020 race held without spectators and the 2021 edition at half capacity. A total of 12 drivers have reached the podium at Istanbul Park, including Felipe Massa, Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, Max Verstappen, and Valtteri Bottas.
Records and notable winners
Brazil’s Felipe Massa holds the record for most wins at the Turkish Grand Prix with three consecutive victories for Ferrari (2006-2008). Lewis Hamilton secured two wins, including his 2020 triumph where he clinched his seventh world championship, equaling Michael Schumacher’s record. Valtteri Bottas won the most recent race in 2021 for Mercedes. However, two-time champion Fernando Alonso and seven-time champion Michael Schumacher never won at Istanbul Park. Colombian driver Juan Pablo Montoya holds the fastest lap record, set in 2005.
