Veteran defender Mats Hummels left out in the cold, while Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos returned from his earlier international retirement

The German national football team manager Julian Nagelsmann on Thursday announced the provisional squad for the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship (EURO 2024).

Borussia Dortmund's 35-year-old veteran defender Mats Hummels was left out of the squad, while Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement from the national team in July 2021 but later reversed his decision, has been included.

Manuel Neuer, the experienced goalkeeper for Bayern Munich, who fractured his leg while skiing in Dec. 2022, following the 2022 World Cup, has also returned to the national team.

Bayern's Serge Gnabry, who injured his hamstring in Wednesday's Champions League semifinal second leg against Real Madrid, and Tottenham's Timo Werner, who is expected to miss the rest of the 2023-24 season due to a hamstring injury, were not included in the squad.

Dortmund's Karim Adeyemi and Julian Brandt, Bayern's Leon Goretzka were not selected to the squad.
