Istanbul Airport has reaffirmed its status as Europe's premier aviation facility, recording the continent's highest flight volume during the October 13-19 period according to data released by Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu. The transportation hub averaged 1,556 daily flights, surpassing other major European airports including Amsterdam Schiphol, Frankfurt, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and London Heathrow during the measured week.
Antalya's Strong Regional Performance
The Turkish Riviera's Antalya Airport also demonstrated significant aviation activity, securing the ninth position among European airports with an average of 957 daily flights. This performance highlights Türkiye's dual strength in both international transit traffic through Istanbul and substantial tourism-driven aviation volume through its Mediterranean coastal gateway, reinforcing the country's position as a multi-faceted aviation market.
National Air Traffic Ranking
According to Eurocontrol's comprehensive traffic analysis, Türkiye ranked as the sixth-busiest aviation market in Europe with a national average of 3,841 flights per day throughout the reporting period. This placement positions Türkiye ahead of several established European aviation markets including Greece, the Netherlands, Poland, and Norway, reflecting the country's expanding role in continental air transportation networks.
Global Departure Statistics
Minister Uraloglu further noted Istanbul Airport's impressive global standing, ranking seventh worldwide among the top 25 international airports based on departure frequency. The facility recorded an average of 790 daily departures during the October 13-19 period, underscoring its significance not only as a European hub but as a major player in global aviation connectivity and operations.
