Istanbul police post attack: 10 suspects detained

Turkish authorities have detained 10 suspects, including two injured attackers still receiving hospital treatment, over a terror assault on a police post in Istanbul’s Beşiktaş district. Three assailants were neutralized in a gunfight with police, and two officers sustained minor injuries. President Erdoğan vowed to continue the fight against all forms of terrorism.
The number of individuals held in connection with Tuesday’s terrorist attack on a police post in Beşiktaş has risen to ten, following the detention of five more suspects in operations carried out in Istanbul and Kocaeli on Wednesday. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident, which targeted a police post on Çömert Street in the Levent neighborhood.
Attack details and neutralization of assailants
Three attackers were neutralized during an exchange of fire with security forces outside Yapı Kredi Plaza on Büyükdere Street, while two police officers suffered light injuries. Of the ten suspects now in custody, two are the wounded attackers who are currently receiving medical treatment; they are expected to be transferred to police custody once their treatment is complete. Procedures for the other eight are ongoing at the Istanbul Police Department.
Erdoğan’s response and commitment to security
Speaking at a defense industry factory opening ceremony, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan condemned “the heinous attack in Istanbul, which was thwarted by the intervention of our heroic security forces.” He stressed that Türkiye will not allow “base and planned provocations” to harm the country’s security climate and will continue its determined fight against every form of terrorism. The swift detention of suspects demonstrates Ankara’s resolve to maintain public safety and bring perpetrators to justice.
