Jewelry craftsman in Istanbul draws inspiration from millennia of history

For more than five decades, Avedis Kendir has been crafting precious stones and metals into jewelry in Istanbul, designing pieces that are sought after across the world. In his workshop located in the city’s historic peninsula, Kendir creates custom jewelry for an international clientele, drawing direct inspiration from Istanbul’s rich layers of history.

“Here, right where we sit, you see artifacts that are thousands of years old. These become a great source of inspiration,” said Kendir. “Being born and raised among these riches, and being able to reflect them in our work, is a tremendous joy and privilege. You won’t find such wealth in every country.”

His atelier blends traditional handcraftsmanship with contemporary design, serving both local and global patrons, including well-known international figures. Kendir’s work transforms Istanbul’s cultural heritage into wearable art, earning recognition far beyond Turkey’s borders.
