Migrant boat capsize leaves 2 dead
At least two people drowned and four others were injured when a boat, packed with illegal migrants, sank in the Aegean Sea.
The boat was en route from the city of Izmir, in the west, to a Greek island when it capsized 2 km off the coastal district Menderes.
Coast guard ships, backed by helicopters, were scrambled to scene and are still searching the migrants thought to be still alive.
Menderes mayor Bulent Soylu said ''it is still unclear how many people the boat carried before it turned down.'' ''We do not have any information about their nationality. They were just identified as migrants who set out Greek islands,'' he added.
A coast guard ship found a migrant unconscious on the surface of the sea during the search-and-rescue efforts. An helicopter took him to Aegean hospital in Izmir for treatment.
