President Erdoğan calls for end to regional conflicts in talks with KRG leader

In a phone call with Nechirvan Barzani, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed solidarity after an attack on the KRG president’s residence and urged an immediate halt to escalating hostilities.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a telephone conversation Monday with Nechirvan Barzani, president of the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), during which he called for an immediate cessation of hostilities spreading across the region. The discussion, confirmed by Türkiye’s Communications Directorate, also saw Erdoğan convey his sympathies to Barzani following an attack targeting the KRG leader’s residence.
Ankara opposes attacks on regional stability
The Turkish president emphasized that Ankara has consistently opposed such acts of violence and stressed the urgency of stopping the ongoing conflicts. Erdoğan’s remarks come amid widening regional instability following the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran that began Feb. 28, which has so far claimed more than 1,340 lives, including Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Retaliatory strikes widen conflict zone
Iran has responded with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting American military infrastructure. The strikes have caused casualties, damaged infrastructure, and disrupted global aviation and energy markets. Türkiye, which shares borders with both Iraq and Iran, has maintained active diplomatic engagement with regional actors to prevent further spillover of the conflict.
