TRT World Forum 2025 opens in Istanbul with 'Global Reset' theme

The 9th TRT World Forum has commenced in Istanbul, gathering over 130 global speakers to discuss a 'Global Reset' in the international order. The event features discussions on defense, conflict zones, and a poignant memorial for Gazan youth, underscoring Türkiye's growing role in shaping global dialogue.
The ninth edition of the TRT World Forum opened in Istanbul on Friday, convening under the theme "Global Reset: From the Old Order to New Realities." The two-day event brings together more than 130 academics, politicians, and journalists from 35 countries to address pressing international issues and shifting geopolitical dynamics.
Memorial for Gaza and Forum Discussions
A significant moment at the forum was a memorial art installation by Norwegian artist Vibeke Harper, honoring 3,925 young people aged 18-20 killed in Gaza. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan participated by placing a name on the memorial wall. Key discussion panels will cover strategic autonomy for Türkiye, reconciliation in East Africa, Syria's reconstruction, and the pursuit of justice in Gaza.
Türkiye's Role in a New Global Order
In his opening remarks, TRT Director General Mehmet Zahid Sobaci stated that the post-World War II international system is exhausted and suffering from a moral decline. He positioned Türkiye, through President Erdogan's vision, as a transformative actor advocating for justice and dialogue. Sobaci emphasized that while some tried to legitimize events in Gaza, Türkiye became "the voice of justice," and is determined to shape a new global order.
Leadership on the Global Stage
Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz described Türkiye as a key power shaping the emerging global security architecture, strengthening its sovereignty through principled engagement. Communications Director Burhanettin Duran also highlighted the nation's diplomatic and military strength, cementing its status as a leading actor in the ongoing global reset.
