A critical NATO event in Istanbul successfully leveraged a sophisticated Common Operational Picture (COP) system developed by Türkiye's Sefine Shipyard. The technology, created by the shipyard's Unmanned Systems Research Center (SISAM), enabled real-time interoperability between various allied unmanned platforms, marking a significant demonstration of Turkish defense software prowess on the international stage.

A cutting-edge software system from Türkiye served as the technological backbone for a major NATO interoperability event held in Istanbul. Developed by Sefine Shipyard's Unmanned Systems Research Center (SISAM), the Common Operational Picture (COP) platform fused real-time data from multinational unmanned systems, showcasing the growing capability of the Turkish defense industry in critical military technology.

Showcasing Interoperability

During the NATO Allied Command Transformation's SHINE event, the SISAM COP system was central to demonstrations. It integrated live feeds from unmanned aerial, surface, and underwater vehicles from different nations, presenting a unified tactical picture on a single screen. This exercise was pivotal in testing STANAG 4817, an emerging NATO standard for enabling seamless communication between disparate military platforms, with strong support from Türkiye's Defense Industry Agency (SSB).

Core Capabilities of the System

The SISAM platform is engineered to provide a unified operational view for complex, multi-domain missions. Its core strength lies in correlating vast amounts of data from diverse sources to generate a single, clear picture that can be shared across distributed command centers. The system features an intuitive interface that allows operators to switch between 2D and immersive 3D maps, manage thousands of real-time tracks, and utilize advanced mission planning tools, all while adhering to NATO's strict interoperability standards.

A Strategic Milestone for Türkiye

The successful deployment of this Turkish-made system at a flagship NATO event underscores Türkiye's strategic move from a hardware producer to a developer of key enabling technologies. Hosting the event at the Istanbul Technical University Maritime Faculty and featuring 13 Turkish defense firms, it highlighted the country's evolving role as a hub for defense innovation and a reliable partner in advancing the alliance's technological edge.
