Turkish Intelligence Chief Calls Gaza Ceasefire a Historic Turning Point

Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MİT) chief Ibrahim Kalın has characterized the newly implemented Gaza ceasefire as a historic milestone that concludes a devastating two-year period of conflict, while cautioning that the agreement's fragility demands sustained vigilance. Speaking at the inaugural International Congress on Intelligence Studies in Ankara, Kalın emphasized that the truce represents a significant turning point but requires careful implementation to prevent violations that could undermine the peace process.

Kalın described the enforcement of the ceasefire as "our most important responsibility," noting that "violations or acts of sabotage can always occur in such fragile environments." He stressed that maintaining the agreement would demand "great vigilance and care" from all parties involved, characterizing the monitoring and enforcement phase as both delicate and critical for achieving lasting stability in the region after what he termed "genocide policies carried out against the people of Gaza for two years."

The intelligence chief clarified that the ceasefire should be viewed as an initial step rather than a comprehensive resolution, stating "This ceasefire is not the solution itself — it is only the first step." He identified the establishment of a Palestinian state through a two-state solution as the ultimate objective necessary for resolving the decades-long conflict. Kalın expressed confidence that achieving this outcome remains possible with sufficient political determination, citing recent negotiations as demonstrating how "willpower, intent, determination — and the hope these generate" can overcome trust deficits between conflicting parties.

The ceasefire agreement, based on US President Donald Trump's 20-point plan, includes prisoner exchanges, Israeli military withdrawal, and humanitarian provisions, with a second phase envisioning new governance structures for Gaza. Kalın's remarks came during the opening of Türkiye's first international intelligence conference, where he highlighted the National Intelligence Academy's growing role in shaping the country's intelligence capabilities since its establishment eighteen months ago through research initiatives and specialized workshops.
