Türkiye calls Gaza ceasefire important step toward lasting peace

The Turkish National Defense Ministry has characterized the current ceasefire in Gaza as an important development toward achieving lasting peace in the region. During a weekly press briefing in Ankara, ministry spokesperson Zeki Aktürk expressed optimism that the truce could mark the beginning of a sustainable resolution to the long-standing conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.

Hope for Two-State Solution

"We hope that this development will be the beginning of a comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace and will ultimately contribute to the goal of a two-state solution," Aktürk stated. The spokesperson's comments reflect Türkiye's consistent diplomatic position supporting Palestinian statehood while acknowledging the current ceasefire as a potential foundation for broader political negotiations between the conflicting parties.

Readiness for Peacekeeping Mission

In response to questions about Türkiye's potential participation in an international stabilization force for Gaza, ministry sources confirmed the Turkish Armed Forces' preparedness to undertake such responsibilities. "With the experience gained from previous peace missions, the Turkish Armed Forces are ready to undertake any tasks assigned to them within the framework of international law for the establishment and maintenance of peace," officials stated, noting that coordination work with relevant state institutions is already underway.

Position on Syrian Unity

Regarding developments in neighboring Syria, ministry sources reiterated Türkiye's commitment to supporting "the principle of one state and one army" in Syria. Officials noted that the Syrian government continues efforts to restructure its institutions and establish nationwide stability. "In this context, we are continuing our efforts to enhance coordination and cooperation with the Syrian Ministry of Defense," sources added, emphasizing the importance of integrating the Syrian Democratic Forces into the national army structure.
