Türkiye, Algeria ink 14 deals to boost strategic ties

Presidents Erdoğan and Tebboune oversaw the signing of 14 agreements covering trade, transport, disaster management, media, and investment. The deals include a preferential trade negotiation launch and cooperation in combating disinformation.
Türkiye and Algeria deepened their strategic partnership on Thursday with the signing of 14 bilateral agreements spanning multiple sectors, following talks between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in Ankara.
First High-Level Cooperation Council meeting
The two leaders presided over the signing ceremony after their meeting and the inaugural session of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. They also issued a joint declaration marking the council’s first gathering. The agreements cover postal services, telecommunications, international passenger and freight transport, welfare support for independence veterans and martyrs' families, mutual recognition of driver’s licenses, and disaster and emergency management.
Trade, industry and media cooperation
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Algerian counterpart Ahmed Attaf signed a memorandum on postal and telecom cooperation. Fidan also inked a transport deal with Algerian Interior Minister Said Sayoud. Family Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş signed a welfare support memorandum with Attaf. Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi and Sayoud finalized two agreements on driver’s license recognition and disaster management. Industry Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır signed industrial cooperation and standardization pacts with Algerian Industry Minister Yahia Bachir. Agriculture Minister İbrahim Yumaklı and his Algerian counterpart Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid agreed on plant protection and quarantine cooperation.

Preferential trade and anti-disinformation push
Trade Minister Ömer Bolat and Algerian Foreign Trade Minister Kamel Rezig signed a declaration launching negotiations for a preferential trade agreement. Communications Director Burhanettin Duran and Attaf inked a memorandum on combating disinformation in the media. Investment Office President Ahmet Burak Dağlıoğlu signed an investment promotion deal with Algeria’s investment agency chief. Finally, TRT Director General Zahid Sobacı and Algeria’s Ambassador to Türkiye Boumediene Guennad signed separate radio and TV cooperation memorandums between Algeria’s EPRS and Türkiye’s public broadcaster. Türkiye continues to expand its diplomatic and economic footprint across Africa and the Islamic world, with Algeria standing as a key partner in North Africa.
