Türkiye and Kazakhstan sign new defence industry deal

Türkiye and Kazakhstan have signed a defence industry cooperation agreement during President Erdoğan’s visit to Astana. Haluk Gorgun, head of Türkiye’s Defence Industries Secretariat, said the deal will advance strategic relations, deepen institutional engagement, and develop joint capabilities.
Türkiye and Kazakhstan have formalised a new agreement to deepen their defence industry cooperation, announced Haluk Gorgun, head of Türkiye’s Secretariat of Defence Industries, on Thursday. The signing took place during President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s official visit to Kazakhstan, where a Turkish delegation attended a ceremony and joint press conference hosted by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Strategic partnership
In a post on X, Gorgun stated: “In the field of defence industry, an important agreement was signed that will further advance Türkiye-Kazakhstan cooperation.” He noted that cooperation mechanisms between the two countries — bound by deep-rooted ties of friendship — contribute to strengthening their strategic relations, deepening institutional engagement, and developing joint capabilities.
Growing defence ties
The agreement follows a pattern of increasing defence collaboration between Ankara and Astana. Türkiye has previously supplied Kazakhstan with armed drones and other military technologies, while the two nations have sought to localise production and transfer know-how. The deal was signed alongside other bilateral agreements during Erdoğan’s visit, which also included a High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting. For Türkiye, deepening ties with fellow Turkic states like Kazakhstan is a key pillar of its broader Eurasian foreign policy.
