Türkiye and Niger sign cooperation deals in Ankara

Türkiye and Niger signed a series of cooperation agreements on Thursday after bilateral and delegation‑level talks between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Nigerien President Abdourahamane Tchiani in Ankara. The agreements span higher education, trade, healthcare, and diplomatic training.
Education, trade, and health deals
A 2026‑2030 implementation protocol on higher education cooperation was signed by Higher Education Council Chairman Erol Özvar and Niger’s Foreign Minister Bakary Yaou Sangaré. Trade Minister Ömer Bolat and Niger’s Trade Minister Abdoulaye Seydou signed a joint declaration establishing a Joint Economic and Trade Commission (JETCO). Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu and Niger’s Public Health Minister Colonel Dr. Garba Hakimi signed a protocol on the joint operation and transfer of the Niger‑Türkiye Friendship Hospital, a flagship healthcare project.
Diplomatic training agreement
A memorandum of understanding between the Turkish Foreign Ministry’s Diplomacy Academy and Niger’s National Institute for Diplomatic and Strategic Studies was signed by National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler and Foreign Minister Sangaré, aiming to strengthen cooperation in diplomatic training and strategic studies. The agreements reflect Ankara’s deepening engagement with Niger, a key Sahel country facing security challenges. Türkiye has also provided military equipment and training to Niger as part of its broader Africa policy.
