Türkiye Prepared to Join Gaza Task Force, Defense Ministry Confirms

Türkiye's National Defense Ministry has confirmed the nation's preparedness to contribute to the international Gaza Task Force, emphasizing the Turkish Armed Forces' capacity to undertake any assigned mission in the conflict-affected region. Defense Ministry spokesman Zeki Akturk stated Friday that the military stands ready to deploy based on its substantial experience in international peacekeeping operations and established reputation for professionalism in complex conflict zones.

Akturk highlighted the Turkish military's extensive track record in global peace and security missions, noting that "our Armed Forces, which have extensive experience in establishing and maintaining peace, stand ready to undertake any mission assigned to them." He emphasized that the military's professional conduct and impartial stance have earned respect from diverse international stakeholders, positioning Türkiye as a credible contributor to stabilization efforts in Gaza following the recently implemented ceasefire.

The ministry also addressed regional security concerns, characterizing recent Syrian elections as positive developments for national unity and regional stability. Officials expressed concern about YPG/SDG terrorist group attacks on Syrian government forces in Manbij and rural Aleppo, interpreting these actions as violations of the March 10, 2025 agreement. Türkiye reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring contacts between Syrian authorities and terrorist organizations while supporting Syria's "one state, one army" principle as essential for regional security.

Defense officials provided updates on Türkiye's ongoing military modernization efforts, confirming continued diversification of the Air Force fleet until the domestic KAAN fighter jet becomes operational. While discussions regarding Eurofighter jet acquisitions remain ongoing, officials stressed that no final decisions have been made. The ministry also addressed European defense cooperation, noting that Türkiye will maintain defense partnerships with European allies regardless of potential exclusion from the European Defense and Security Architecture (SAFE) due to regulatory restrictions on non-EU members.
