US Troops to Monitor Gaza Ceasefire from Israeli Air Base: Report

United States military personnel are preparing to initiate monitoring operations from an Israeli airbase to oversee the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, as reported by Israeli media outlets. The deployment of at least 200 American troops to Hatzor Air Base in southern Israel represents a direct US involvement in verifying compliance with the truce terms that took effect last Friday.

While neither US nor Israeli authorities have officially confirmed the troop deployment, Israeli Channel 12 reported that the American contingent will form part of a monitoring task force. Concurrently, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and his team have commenced work on detailed maps for Israel's planned withdrawal from Gaza territory. Witkoff confirmed his visit to Gaza alongside CENTCOM Commander Admiral Bradley Cooper and Jared Kushner to verify Israeli adherence to the agreement's first phase.

The American monitoring mission precedes the anticipated deployment of a broader multinational stabilization force comprising troops from Islamic, Arab, and European nations. This international force will position itself between areas vacated by Israeli forces and Gaza's border with Israel. The formation and mandate of this force will be a key discussion point at Monday's Sharm el-Sheikh peace summit in Egypt, co-chaired by US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

The ceasefire arrangement, announced last Wednesday, includes the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for approximately 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. The second phase of the agreement envisions establishing a new Gaza governance structure without Hamas participation and the group's disarmament. The Egyptian presidency stated the upcoming summit aims to "end the war in Gaza Strip, enhance efforts to bring peace and stability to the Middle East, and usher in a new phase of regional security."
