Türkiye ready to join multinational Gaza force, defense minister says

The statement underscores Ankara's continued engagement in Middle Eastern security matters and its willingness to play an active role in post-conflict stabilization efforts in the Palestinian territory.
NATO Meetings and Regional Security
According to a ministry statement released Thursday, Minister Güler participated in significant sessions addressing the alliance's deterrence capabilities, potential support for Ukraine, and various security concerns. The defense minister highlighted Türkiye's position among NATO's top five troop contributors and detailed the country's substantial investments in military modernization, including its commitment to meeting the 5% defense spending target.
Gaza Ceasefire and Two-State Solution
Güler expressed satisfaction with the current ceasefire in Gaza and voiced hope that it would mark the beginning of a fair two-state solution. He emphasized the importance of ensuring full implementation of the truce and maintaining uninterrupted humanitarian aid flows. The minister reaffirmed Türkiye's commitment to continuing its humanitarian support for Gaza alongside its potential military contribution to the stabilization force envisioned in US President Donald Trump's 20-point peace plan.
Bilateral Engagements and Defense Agreements
During the Brussels meetings, Güler held separate discussions with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and UK Defense Secretary John Healey, in addition to trilateral talks with his Romanian and Bulgarian counterparts. These conversations focused on enhancing bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Türkiye also signed a letter of intent concerning the Fires Centre of Excellence and a memorandum on the Distributed Synthetic Training High Visibility Project with allied defense ministers.
