Jordan executes six convicted in terrorism and drug cases

Jordan's government spokesman said Sunday that six individuals were executed at dawn following final convictions in terrorism and drug-related cases that claimed the lives of security personnel. Government Communications Minister Mohammad Al-Momani confirmed the executions were carried out after all sentences became final and legal procedures were completed, according to Roya News.

Salt Cell case

"Al-Momani detailed that two of those executed were convicted in the so-called 'Salt Cell' case, which involved the formation of a terrorist group in 2018," Roya News reported. "The attack resulted in the deaths of multiple security personnel, including officers and soldiers from the Public Security Directorate and the Jordan Armed Forces," the report said.

Drug trafficking convictions

Another individual was executed for a separate 2022 terrorism case involving the killing of a senior officer, the minister added. Two others were convicted in drug trafficking cases from 2014 and 2017 that turned violent during raids and killed police officers, while the sixth was executed for a 2018 drug case in which a raid led to the death of a police officer, Al-Momani stated.
