Türkiye to host Zero Waste Forum in Istanbul

First Lady Emine Erdogan announced that the second Zero Waste Forum will take place in Istanbul on June 5-7, bringing together representatives from over 160 countries. This year’s theme is “Road to Antalya: Zero Waste as Climate Action,” ahead of Türkiye hosting COP31.
Türkiye’s First Lady Emine Erdogan has announced that the second edition of the Zero Waste Forum will be held in Istanbul from June 5 to 7. The event is expected to gather thousands of delegates from more than 160 countries to discuss climate action, sustainability, and international environmental cooperation.
Theme and COP31 preparations
In a post on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, Erdogan revealed that this year’s theme is “Road to Antalya: Zero Waste as Climate Action.” She expressed hope that the forum would strengthen environmental awareness, foster a sense of shared global responsibility, and support long-term cooperation in combating the climate crisis. She also noted that the summit would contribute to preparations for the COP31 climate process, which Türkiye is set to host later this year.
Location and significance
The forum is scheduled to take place at Atatürk Airport in Istanbul. The Zero Waste movement, championed by Emine Erdogan under the auspices of the Presidency, has gained international recognition, including a UN resolution on zero waste. The Istanbul forum will serve as a key precursor to COP31, positioning Türkiye as a leading voice in global climate diplomacy ahead of the major UN conference.
