Türkiye welcomes Yemen prisoner swap deal between gov’t, Houthis

Türkiye has welcomed a prisoner exchange agreement between the Yemeni government and Houthi rebels reached in Amman, Jordan. Ankara expressed hope the deal will boost efforts toward a comprehensive political solution and reaffirmed its support for Yemen’s territorial integrity and lasting peace.
Türkiye on Friday welcomed a prisoner release agreement reached between the Yemeni government and Houthi rebels following talks in Jordan’s capital, Amman, according to a statement from the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
Ankara appreciates contributions
The ministry said it appreciated the contributions made by all relevant parties to the negotiation process. “We hope that this agreement will give momentum to efforts aimed at finding a comprehensive political solution to the conflict in Yemen,” the statement read. Türkiye has long supported UN-led mediation efforts to end the decade-long civil war in Yemen, which has caused one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
Commitment to Yemen’s unity and peace
“Türkiye will continue to support efforts to preserve Yemen’s territorial integrity and national unity, and to ensure lasting peace in the country,” the ministry added. The prisoner swap deal marks a rare step toward confidence-building between the warring sides, though a comprehensive political settlement remains elusive. Ankara continues to advocate for dialogue and reconciliation as the only viable path to end the suffering of the Yemeni people.
