Türkiye's state-run aid agency TIKA has equipped a major hospital in Mogadishu with a sophisticated intensive care unit, including respiratory support and patient monitoring systems. The project also involved comprehensive training for local medical staff, reinforcing the enduring partnership between the two nations and significantly boosting critical care capabilities in the Somali capital.

Türkiye has bolstered Somalia's healthcare infrastructure with the delivery of a fully equipped, advanced intensive care unit to Mogadishu's Community Hospital. The project, executed by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), represents a significant upgrade to critical care services in the Somali capital and underscores the deepening bilateral ties between the two nations.

Enhancing Critical Care Capabilities

The newly established ICU at the hospital, which operates under the Somali Custodial Corps, is furnished with modern medical technology. The supplied equipment includes essential respiratory support units, comprehensive patient monitoring systems, and various other vital medical devices. To ensure the effective use of this new infrastructure, TIKA provided extensive training programs for the hospital's medical personnel on operating the advanced equipment.

This healthcare initiative is a recent manifestation of the strong relationship between Türkiye and Somalia, which was notably strengthened in 2011. That year, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, then Prime Minister, visited the country, marking the first visit by a non-African leader in two decades. Since then, Türkiye's total development assistance to Somalia has surpassed $1 billion, encompassing vital sectors like health, education, and infrastructure.

Commitment to Shared Development

The initiative is expected to markedly improve healthcare standards in the region and play a crucial role in saving lives. TIKA's statement emphasized that Türkiye remains committed to sharing its institutional expertise and capacity in the health sector with Somalia, reflecting a long-term strategy of cooperation and shared development that continues to define the alliance between Ankara and Mogadishu.
