The company plans to invest over $200 million in the center over five years, highlighting the country's growing prominence in the global tech talent market.
Uber has chosen Istanbul as the location for a new global technology hub, a significant expansion that positions the city among a select group of international tech centers for the company. The announcement was made at an event in Istanbul attended by Turkish Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacir and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, where a supporting memorandum of understanding was signed with the Presidential Investment Office.
Strategic Investment and Local Talent
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi revealed plans to invest more than $200 million in the Istanbul hub over the next five years. He praised Türkiye as a source of "some of the brightest, most dynamic technology talent anywhere in the world," stating that the country will now play a central role in developing core technologies for Uber's global platform. The hub will initially be staffed by 180 technologists who joined via the acquisition of Trendyol Go.
A Decade of Growth and Future Vision
Khosrowshahi reflected on Uber's decade-long journey in Türkiye, noting that 95% of taxis in Istanbul now use the Uber app and the company is approaching its 100 millionth ride in the country. He described Türkiye as a "global benchmark" for taxi adoption of digital platforms. The new hub signifies that "the future of Uber’s innovation will be built right here in Türkiye," he stated, with plans for collaborations with Turkish universities.
Türkiye as a Global Tech Magnet
