Anderson previously directed the Consular and Crisis department at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office from 2020 to 2024. She served as deputy head of mission at the British Embassy in Ankara between 2017 and 2020, managing diplomatic operations during her earlier tenure.

Her career included postings as UK high commissioner to Botswana and deputy head of mission in Jakarta. She also led the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's Counter-Terrorism Department before moving to crisis management.
