A total of 373 US service members have been wounded in the Iran operation as of Monday, according to a report. CBS News, citing a US Central Command spokesperson, reported that some 330 of those have returned to duty, and five are currently considered seriously wounded. The figures provide the first comprehensive look at American casualties since the conflict began.
US fatalities
The US has also confirmed at least 13 service members killed since the operation began. The military has lost several aircraft, including two MC-130J aircraft valued at over $100 million each during a rescue mission, as well as an F-15 fighter jet and other assets.
Conflict context
Tensions in the Middle East have escalated amid the ongoing US and Israeli joint offensive on Iran since Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people according to Iranian authorities, including former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting US military assets. It has also restricted the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump's deadline
The casualty figures come as President Trump weighs whether to escalate military strikes or extend negotiations, with a Tuesday evening deadline for Iran to reach a deal. Trump has warned that every bridge and power plant in Iran would be "decimated" if no agreement is reached.
