Airstrike on religious complex in Iran’s Zanjan kills three, wounds 12

An early morning strike damages multiple buildings at the Hosseinieh Azam Zanjan Complex, with rescue crews continuing search operations for additional victims.
An airstrike struck the administrative building of the Hosseinieh Azam Zanjan Complex in Iran’s Zanjan province early Tuesday, killing three people and injuring 12 others, according to a provincial official. Ali Sadeghi, the deputy governor for political, security and social affairs, said the bodies of three victims were recovered from the rubble, with emergency teams transporting the wounded to medical facilities.
Extensive damage to religious complex
The attack caused significant damage to several structures within the complex, including the administrative building, a guesthouse, the library, and a charitable loan fund office. Nearby shops were also affected. Sadeghi confirmed that rescue operations involving the Red Crescent, fire department, and municipal crews were ongoing, with crews working to clear debris and search for any remaining victims.
Wider regional conflict continues
The strike is the latest in a series of attacks amid the broader military escalation that began when the US and Israel launched an offensive against Iran on Feb. 28. That campaign has claimed more than 1,340 lives, including Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting American military assets, causing casualties and infrastructure damage while disrupting global markets and aviation.
