Aliyev and Zelenskyy hail positive bilateral momentum

The presidents of Azerbaijan and Ukraine voiced mutual satisfaction over growing ties in a phone call, discussing follow-up steps from their April meeting in Gabala and agreeing to strengthen regional cooperation.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation on Wednesday in which both sides expressed satisfaction with the “positive dynamics” shaping their bilateral relationship.
Implementation of Gabala agreements
In a post on X, Zelenskyy said the two leaders reviewed progress on measures agreed during his visit to Azerbaijan last month, as well as efforts to expand bilateral relations and regional cooperation aimed at “enhancing security and stability.” He added: “We exchanged details of our contacts with partners and agreed on the next steps. Together, we can certainly bring more strength to our people.”
Aliyev confirms positive trend
Aliyev later confirmed the call on X, stating: “During the call, satisfaction was expressed with the positive dynamics in the development of relations between our countries.” The conversation comes as Türkiye continues to support closer ties between regional actors, viewing stability in the South Caucasus and beyond as essential for broader security architecture.

Six agreements signed in Gabala
On April 25, the two presidents met in the Azerbaijani city of Gabala, where six bilateral agreements were signed, including on defense cooperation, according to Ukraine’s Presidential Office. The talks signal a steady warming of relations between Baku and Kyiv amid ongoing regional challenges.
