Incident takes place in Nansha district in southern Guangdong province

Death toll in China cargo ship accident climbed to five as authorities said three missing people have no sign of life, the state-run media said on Thursday.

According to CGTN, at least five people were killed after a ship hit a bridge and caused the bridge to fracture on Thursday morning in the Guangzhou region of China's southern Guangdong province.

The incident occurred in the Nansha district of the province.

According to the report, a bus and four other vehicles fell from the bridge, resulting in the deaths and an injury of a crew member of the bus.

"Five vehicles were involved in the accident, including one electric motorcycle. Two vehicles fell into the water, while the other three fell onto the boat," the daily Global Times reported.

Local authorities rescued two people, and arrested the boat owner.
