Bangladesh demands justice after three citizens killed in India

Bangladesh has formally called on India to identify and prosecute those responsible for the killing of three Bangladeshi nationals in the Indian state of Tripura. The victims were allegedly beaten to death by a mob on suspicion of cattle theft after illegally crossing the border.
Bangladesh has issued a formal demand for India to investigate and punish the perpetrators who killed three Bangladeshi citizens in a mob attack in India's northeastern Tripura state. The three men were reportedly beaten to death on Wednesday in Khowai district, just kilometers from the Bangladesh border, after allegedly crossing into India illegally.
Official Protest and Human Rights Appeal
In an official statement, Bangladesh's Foreign Ministry urged the Indian government to conduct an "immediate, impartial and transparent" investigation into the lynching. The ministry emphasized that all individuals, "regardless of nationality, are entitled to the full protection of their human rights, regardless of which side of the border they may inadvertently find themselves in," and insisted that "the perpetrators must be identified and brought to justice."
Victim Details and Local Account
The victims were identified as Jewel Mia (32), Pati Mia (45), and Sajal Mia (20), all residents of Chunarughat town in Bangladesh's Habiganj district. According to Md Jahidul Islam, officer in charge of Chunarughat police station, the three men had no prior history of cattle smuggling cases. Their bodies were repatriated to Bangladeshi authorities by India's Border Security Force on Thursday, while Indian police have opened cases regarding their deaths.
Ongoing Tension and Media Reports
Indian media, including the Times of India, reported that the three "suspected" Bangladeshi nationals were lynched by villagers in Vidvabil village while allegedly attempting to steal cattle. The incident highlights ongoing tensions in border regions and raises serious questions about mob violence and the protection of human rights. New Delhi had not issued an immediate response to Dhaka's diplomatic call for justice at the time of reporting.
