Belgium, Spain each allocate $1.2B in military aid to Ukraine

Ukraine’s Defense Minister announced that Belgium and Spain will each provide €1 billion ($1.2 billion) in military aid this year. Belgium confirmed additional F-16 fighter jets and spare parts, while Spain discussed expanding defense industry cooperation, including testing Spanish drones in combat conditions.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced on Monday that Belgium and Spain have each committed €1 billion ($1.2 billion) in military aid to Kyiv for the current year. The announcement came following separate talks with his Belgian and Spanish counterparts, Theo Francken and Margarita Robles, respectively.
Belgium to supply more F-16s
Writing on Telegram, Fedorov said the discussions focused on strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses, expanding drone capabilities, and the “Czech initiative” to supply long-range artillery. During the talks, Brussels confirmed its intention to transfer additional F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine and ensure the supply of spare parts for existing aircraft, bolstering Kyiv’s aging air fleet.
Spain to expand defense industry cooperation
In discussions with Spain, attention turned to expanding defense industry cooperation, particularly under the European SAFE mechanism. “We are ready to offer a list of manufacturers that can establish cooperation with Spanish companies,” Fedorov said, adding that Ukraine has offered to test Spanish drones in real combat conditions. The aid packages come as Ukraine continues to defend against Russian aggression, now in its fifth year.
