Cambodia has officially inaugurated its largest airport, the $2.3 billion Techo International Airport, which replaces the old Phnom Penh International Airport. Prime Minister Hun Manet described the facility as a catalyst for economic and tourism growth.

Cambodia has officially opened the Techo International Airport, a $2.3 billion infrastructure project that now serves as the country's primary aviation hub. Prime Minister Hun Manet presided over the inauguration ceremony on Monday, marking the operational transition from the former Phnom Penh International Airport, which has been completely closed.

Economic and Tourism Catalyst

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed strong confidence in the new facility's potential to drive national development. "I'm confident that the TIA will become a catalyst for Cambodia's economic and tourism growth, helping attract more investors and tourists," he stated. The Prime Minister emphasized that the airport would significantly enhance both passenger travel and cargo transport capabilities, strengthening Cambodia's regional and global connectivity.

Advanced Infrastructure Capabilities

The newly operational airport features dual 4-kilometer runways, making it capable of accommodating long-haul international flights and all types of aircraft. This advanced infrastructure represents a substantial upgrade from previous facilities and positions Cambodia to compete more effectively in the global aviation market while supporting the country's growing logistics and export sectors.

Construction Background and National Infrastructure

Construction on the Techo International Airport commenced in 2020, with China State Construction Engineering Corporation serving as the primary contractor. The project's completion brings Cambodia's total number of operational international airports to three, significantly expanding the nation's aviation capacity and modernizing its transportation infrastructure to meet future economic development goals.
