Chad gears up to celebrate its cultural diversity with Dary Festival

N'Djamena will come alive once again with the Dary Festival, showcasing Chad's cultural richness from December 20, 2025, to January 4, 2026. Organized with contributions from the country's 23 provinces and support from the highest levels of the state, this major gathering has become an essential event celebrating national unity through dance, art, traditions, and the talents that shape the Chadian spirit. This year's edition is expected to feature one of the most ambitious programs to date, with participation anticipated from numerous artists, visitors, and guests from across Chad and abroad.
The 7th Edition Highlights Unity and Identity
The 7th edition of the Dary Festival will take place at the Nation Square in N'Djamena from December 20, 2025, to January 4, 2026. The announcement was made public on November 5, 2025, by Minister Abakar Rozzi Teguil, who leads the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
This year's theme, "Celebrating Our Plural Identity," clearly reflects the event's core objective: to recognize, value, and unite Chad's ethnic, cultural, and historical diversity around a common national project.
According to the organizers, Dary aims to be a space for national cohesion, where different communities gather to share and creativity is encouraged, bringing together youth, artists, artisans, communities, and public institutions under one umbrella.

A Festival Becoming a Cornerstone of National Identity
Launched in 2018 and formalized the following year, the Dary Festival has quickly become one of the country's most important cultural events. The representation of all 23 provinces in each edition vividly and tangibly displays Chad's cultural mosaic.
The festival features everything from traditional dances and crafts to gastronomy, visual arts, oral traditions, local attire, and linguistic diversity.
Held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, this organization is regarded as a powerful symbol of national unity and pride.

Growing Interest and Notable Attendance Figures
Since its first edition, the popularity of the Dary Festival has consistently grown. The second edition welcomed approximately 300,000 visitors and over 150 artists. During the third edition, daily visitor numbers exceeding 37,000 were recorded on some days, indicating the event's increasing significance for the public.
This scale generates significant economic activity for artisans, restaurateurs, hotels, and the cultural sector.
For the 2025-2026 edition, participation is expected to increase further, fueled by growing national awareness and contributions from artistic delegations from various African countries.
The involvement of international artists in past editions further confirms Dary's expanding influence on a regional scale.

A Cultural Celebration Under High State Patronage
The Dary Festival has enjoyed continuous state support since its inception. As in previous editions, President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno is expected to attend the opening ceremony—a clear affirmation of the festival's strategic role in building national identity.
The head of state's presence lends institutional weight to the event and underscores its impact on strengthening social cohesion, peace, and national solidarity.
The Ministry of Tourism and Culture collaborates with the ONPTA to manage the organization, ensuring equal representation for all provinces and the promotion of their cultural identities.

A Meeting Point for Traditions, Art, and Contemporary Creation
Above all, the Dary Festival is a space for encounter. Each province showcases its cultural heritage: ritual dances, ancient music, craft products, pottery, weaving, jewelry-making, oral traditions, regional cuisine, and traditional attire are presented to visitors.
Beyond this deep-rooted heritage, the festival is also a stage for modern art and young creators. Young musicians, painters, fashion designers, and performance artists showcase their talents while building a bridge between tradition and innovation.
This intersection makes the festival a unique space that simultaneously renders visible Chad's past, present, and future.
The participation of foreign artists transforms Dary into an international cultural crossroads, also establishing it as a platform for regional cultural diplomacy.
