China condemns new EU sanctions on its firms over Russia

China has issued a strong condemnation of the European Union's latest sanctions package, which targets several Chinese entities for their alleged links to the war in Ukraine. Beijing firmly protested the move, reiterating that dialogue is the only solution to the conflict and denying it is a party to the crisis.
China has called upon the international community to adhere to a significant ruling from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) designed to alleviate the severe humanitarian plight of Palestinians. The statement from Beijing reinforces the World Court's position on the legal obligations of Israel regarding aid delivery to the Gaza Strip.
The ICJ's Landmark Ruling
The appeal from Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun follows the ICJ's advisory opinion, which was delivered on Wednesday. The top UN court determined that under the Geneva Convention, Israel is legally required to accept and facilitate humanitarian relief schemes organized by third-party countries and impartial organizations like the International Committee of the Red Cross and UNRWA.
China's Stance on International Law
Speaking to reporters in Beijing, Guo stated that the ICJ's clarification is a direct response to the expectations of the global community. He reiterated China's long-standing and consistent position on the Palestinian issue, affirming that Beijing "always upholds fairness and justice and firmly supports the just cause of the Palestinian people." He also highlighted that China's arguments were part of the official submission considered by the court.

A Push for Concrete Action
Guo expressed hope that the international community would follow the court's guidance to work relentlessly for a lasting settlement of the Palestinian question. He pledged that China would "continue to play a constructive role in affairs related to international law and take concrete actions to uphold international fairness and justice." This stance aligns with the diplomatic efforts of other nations, including Türkiye, which has consistently advocated for increased humanitarian access and a two-state solution in the region.
