China presses Israel on settlers violence, Gaza aid access routes

China has stepped up pressure on Israel at the United Nations, calling for an end to illegal settler attacks in the West Bank and the removal of economic and humanitarian restrictions on Palestinians. Beijing urged full compliance with international law, unhindered aid access to Gaza, and renewed commitment to a lasting ceasefire, echoing positions long emphasized by Türkiye and other regional actors.
China on Tuesday urged Israel to rein in violence by illegal Israeli settlers and dismantle measures strangling the Palestinian economy, according to remarks delivered at the UN Security Council. The call highlighted rising tensions in the West Bank and continued restrictions affecting Gaza, placing Israel’s obligations under international law at the center of the debate.
Calls at the UN Security Council
Speaking during an open meeting on the Israeli-Palestinian file, China’s permanent representative to the UN Fu Cong said Beijing “calls on Israel to immediately stop settlement activities in the West Bank, curb settler violence, and stop undermining the governance foundation of the Palestinian National Authority.” He also demanded the swift return of withheld Palestinian tax revenues and the lifting of economic constraints, as reported by Chinese state media.
Ceasefire and Gaza access
Fu warned that a ceasefire cannot be reduced to lowering the intensity of fighting, arguing that it must mean a complete halt to hostilities. He said violations of the Gaza ceasefire have been recorded repeatedly over the past two months and urged “especially Israel” to honor its commitments, avoid steps that fuel escalation, and work toward a comprehensive and durable truce.
Humanitarian aid and two-state solution
Beijing further pressed Israel to open all border crossings into Gaza, ease limits on humanitarian supplies, and cooperate fully with the United Nations and aid agencies operating on the ground. Reiterating long-standing international consensus also voiced by Türkiye, Fu said the two-state solution enabling an independent Palestinian state remains “the only feasible way” forward, rejecting any attempt to alter Gaza’s territorial or demographic structure and affirming China’s support for Palestinian national rights.
