China urges US, Iran to halt escalation amid fresh strikes

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said Beijing is deeply concerned over the latest exchange of strikes, calling on both Washington and Tehran to exercise restraint and pursue a comprehensive ceasefire through diplomatic means.
China's Foreign Ministry on Wednesday issued an urgent call for Washington and Tehran to halt military escalation, expressing deep concern over fresh American air strikes and subsequent Iranian retaliation.
Military exchange
US Central Command confirmed Tuesday that American forces launched air strikes against Iranian targets after a US Army Apache helicopter was downed on Monday. Iran's military headquarters announced early Wednesday that it had attacked US bases in response to strikes on Iran.
Tehran's stance
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Washington has opted to test Tehran's determination. His remarks followed confirmation of retaliatory attacks against US bases, underscoring the high alert between the adversaries.
The confrontation began when Iranian forces shot down the US helicopter on Monday. The escalation has drawn international calls for restraint amid fears of a broader conflict.
