China's Xi wishes Biden speedy recovery from COVID-19

China’s President Xi Jinping

US president is currently isolated at White House and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time, says spokeswoman

China’s President Xi Jinping sent a message on Friday wishing US President Joe Biden a speedy recovery from COVID-19.

“I would like to extend my sincere sympathy to the US president and wish him a speedy recovery,” Xi said in the message.

On Thursday, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden, 79, was experiencing "very mild symptoms" and had started taking the Paxlovid COVID-19 pill.

Biden said he is “doing well” after testing positive for the coronavirus.

He said in a video message: “This morning I tested positive for COVID, but have been double vaccinated, double boosted; symptoms are mild. I really appreciate your concerns, but I'm doing well, getting a lot of work. I'm going to continue to get it done.”

Biden is currently isolated at the White House and “will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time,” said Jean-Pierre.
