Denmark will launch a military exercise in Greenland with allies on Tuesday, aiming to enhance the operational readiness of both the Danish Armed Forces and NATO in and around Greenland.

The Danish Defense Ministry said on its website that the Arctic Light 2025 exercise will continue until Sept. 19, during which the Danish military will train alongside personnel from other NATO countries.

"Due to increased focus on the security situation in the Arctic, the Danish Armed Forces are enhancing their military presence and level of activity in and around Greenland," the ministry said, adding that this is carried out under the leadership of the Joint Arctic Command and in coordination with the government of Greenland.

According to the ministry, Arctic Light 2025 will focus on strengthening the joint response capabilities of NATO allies against destabilizing threats to Greenland, Denmark, and NATO in the North Atlantic and Arctic regions. During the exercise, Danish forces will train alongside personnel from France, Germany, Sweden, and Norway. More than 550 soldiers are expected to take part.

As part of the exercise, the Danish Armed Forces will deploy the frigate Niels Juel, two EH-101 helicopters, two F-16 fighter jets, and contributions from all three branches of the armed forces, including special operations forces and the Danish Home Guard, according to the statement.

Additionally, the exercise will include participation from the French Navy vessel FS Garonne, along with a multi-role tanker aircraft and mountain infantry units equipped with drone technology. Swedish and Norwegian home guard forces will also take part, while Germany will send an observer team and staff personnel.
