Eleven killed, 46 injured in Russian overnight strike on Kyiv

A Russian overnight strike on Kyiv has killed 11 people and injured 46, with debris from intercepted missiles and drones causing fires across the capital. Russia said the strike targeted military infrastructure in response to Ukrainian attacks, while Ukraine also reported overnight strikes on Russian-controlled Crimea.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said Monday that 11 people were killed and 46 injured in a Russian overnight strike on the Ukrainian capital. In a statement on Telegram, Klitschko said debris from intercepted missiles and drones fell in several parts of Kyiv, causing fires and damage. Search and rescue operations were continuing. Russia’s Defence Ministry confirmed the strike, saying it was conducted in response to Ukrainian "terrorist attacks" on civilian infrastructure inside Russia. The ministry said the strikes targeted military enterprises, fuel and energy facilities in Kyiv and the surrounding region, as well as military airfield infrastructure in several regions.
Targets and retaliation
Russian strikes hit the Burevestnik plant, which manufactures drones and radar equipment, fuel storage facilities supplying Ukrainian forces, and a shipyard producing artillery boats. Other targets included facilities producing air defence systems, navigation systems, armoured vehicles, and medium- and long-range drones. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s General Staff reported overnight attacks on Russian-controlled territory, including a strike that caused a power outage in Sevastopol, Crimea. The governor of Russia’s Leningrad region said Ukrainian drones targeted the Luga military training ground and ports, with 56 drones shot down.
Casualties and escalation
The Russian Defence Ministry also said air defence units intercepted 519 Ukrainian drones overnight over multiple regions. Independent verification of claims by both sides is challenging due to the ongoing conflict.
