President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday that Türkiye is working to establish peace in Iran, Gaza and the Horn of Africa, stressing that the diplomatic opportunity to resolve tensions between Washington and Tehran must not be allowed to unravel.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday that Türkiye is actively working to establish peace and stability in Iran, Gaza and the Horn of Africa, according to a statement from the Turkish Communications Directorate.

US-Iran diplomatic window

Erdogan emphasized that the diplomatic opportunity to resolve issues between the United States and Iran should be utilized effectively, adding that the international community bears responsibility for preventing any attempt to sabotage the process. He warned that allowing the window for negotiation to close would risk further destabilization in a region already strained by conflict.

Syria missions and Cyprus

The Turkish president also underscored the importance of maintaining effective UN operations in Syria, stating that Ankara will continue to provide necessary support for these missions. Türkiye has maintained a military presence in northern Syria and plays a significant role in cross-border humanitarian operations.

The latest developments on the island of Cyprus were also raised during the call, alongside discussions concerning the humanitarian situations in Gaza and Lebanon. Erdogan and Guterres exchanged views on measures to alleviate civilian suffering in both territories, where ongoing conflicts have displaced thousands and strained relief efforts.
