The EU convened a Global Alliance meeting in Brussels on implementing the two-state solution, bringing together international and regional partners. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas called the two-state solution “the only way for both Palestinians and Israelis to live in safety, dignity, and peace,” and condemned unilateral actions including illegal settlements.
The European Union hosted a meeting of the Global Alliance in Brussels on Monday, focusing on the implementation of the two-state solution between Israel and Palestine. “The Global Alliance is back in Brussels,” said EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas in her opening remarks. She explained that the initiative is designed to strengthen collective efforts to advance a two-state solution grounded in international law. Kallas welcomed the participation of Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, Norwegian Premier Jonas Gahr Store, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
Key participants and guiding framework
Kallas also noted the presence of UN and former officials, including Nikolai Mladenov, Ramiz Alakbarov, and acting UNRWA Commissioner-General Christian Saunders. She said the discussions aim to deepen cooperation on the two-state solution, with the New York Declaration serving as the guiding framework. Kallas stressed the importance of ensuring respect for international law, human rights, and accountability, as well as protecting the Palestinian people. She reiterated that the two-state solution remains “the only way for both Palestinians and Israelis to live in safety, dignity, and peace.”
Condemnation of unilateral actions
The EU foreign policy chief condemned unilateral measures, including illegal settlement expansion, stating that such actions undermine the two-state solution. She urged Israel to reverse those policies. Kallas also called for the release of withheld clearance revenues to ensure the functioning of the Palestinian Authority, noting that the EU remains the largest external assistance provider to the Palestinian Authority.
