In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Attorney General Bondi confirmed the arrests, stating the individuals "have been resisting and impeding our federal law enforcement agents." She specified that the suspects are being charged under federal statutes for assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers. Bondi, who noted she was on the ground in Minneapolis, issued a stern warning that "more arrests to come." She emphasized the administration's resolve, declaring, "nothing will stop President Trump and this Department of Justice from enforcing the law."

Context of Sustained Protests and Fatal Shootings

The arrests occur amid a volatile and prolonged period of civil unrest in the Minnesota city. Public protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and US Border Patrol have been ongoing since early January. Tensions reached a new peak following the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, an intensive care nurse, by a Border Patrol agent on Saturday, January 24. That incident was the second fatal shooting of a US citizen by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis this month, following the death of Renee Good earlier in January.
