Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will travel to Iran on Sunday for comprehensive discussions focusing on bilateral relations and regional security issues. The agenda includes enhancing economic cooperation, addressing regional conflicts, and preparing for an upcoming high-level council meeting between the two neighboring nations.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will undertake an official visit to Iran on Sunday for high-level diplomatic discussions covering both bilateral relations and pressing regional matters. During his meetings with Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials, Fidan aims to strengthen the institutional framework governing relations between the two neighboring countries through the High-Level Cooperation Council established in 2014.

Bilateral Cooperation and Economic Agenda

The discussions will focus on advancing preparations for the ninth meeting of the High-Level Cooperation Council, which will convene under the leadership of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Minister Fidan is expected to emphasize the importance of accelerating joint infrastructure projects, particularly border trade centers, and enhancing security cooperation while working toward the bilateral trade target of $30 billion between the two nations.

Regional Security and Conflict Resolution

The diplomatic agenda includes addressing multiple regional security challenges, with Fidan anticipated to reiterate Türkiye's support for a peaceful resolution to Iran's nuclear program. The talks will also cover the Gaza conflict, including the recent UN Security Council resolution and reconstruction efforts, while emphasizing the need to maintain the current ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The minister will further discuss Syria's stability and call for diplomatic resolution of the Russia-Ukraine war.

Broader Regional Stability

Additional regional matters scheduled for discussion include maintaining peace in the South Caucasus and addressing recent tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The comprehensive agenda reflects Türkiye's active diplomatic engagement in its neighborhood and underscores the strategic importance of Turkish-Iranian dialogue in addressing multiple regional challenges while advancing mutual economic and security interests.
