Four Israelis were injured Monday in the coastal city of Nahariya after rockets fired from Lebanon hit northern Israel, medics said. The national emergency service MDA reported that one person sustained moderate injuries at the Kabri junction east of Nahariya, while three others were injured inside the city after the rocket strike. Israel's Channel 12 broadcast footage showing a fire that broke out in a residential building in Nahariya following the attack.

Interceptor concerns

Israeli media did not specify why the rockets were not intercepted. However, recent press reports have suggested that Israel is facing a significant shortage of interceptor missiles amid the ongoing multi-front conflict. The failure to intercept incoming projectiles raises questions about the strain on Israel's air defense systems after weeks of continuous operations.

Conflict context

Regional escalation has raged since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on Feb. 28, killing around 1,200 people according to Iranian authorities, including former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, along with Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries, which it says are targeting "US military assets."

Northern front

The Nahariya attack is part of ongoing exchanges with Hezbollah along Israel's northern border. The Lebanese group began targeting Israeli military sites on March 2 in response to Israeli attacks on Lebanon and the killing of Khamenei. Israel has since expanded airstrikes across Lebanon and launched a ground offensive, displacing over one million Lebanese.
