German firms see Türkiye as strategic production hub, eye green transition at COP31

German companies view Türkiye as a key production and supply base with access to multiple regions, driven by a skilled workforce and strong industrial infrastructure, says the head of the German-Turkish Chamber of Commerce.
Türkiye is increasingly seen by German businesses as a strategic production and supply hub with access to European, Middle Eastern, and Central Asian markets, according to Bige Yucel, President of the German-Turkish Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Türkiye). In an interview with Anadolu, Yucel noted that approximately 8,250 German companies are active in Türkiye across sectors such as automotive supply, machinery, energy, and digital infrastructure.
Drivers of German Investment and Trade Volume
Yucel highlighted Türkiye’s young, skilled workforce and developed industrial base as primary attractions. Bilateral trade remains robust, reaching around $50 billion in 2024 and projected to hit $48–52 billion in 2025. Key sectors driving exchange include automotive, machinery, energy, and chemicals. Growing rail infrastructure investments in Türkiye are further strengthening logistics and enabling long-term, high-value partnerships between German and Turkish firms.
Focus on Green Transition and EU Alignment
With Türkiye set to host the UN Climate Change Conference (COP31) this year, green transformation has moved to the center of the bilateral agenda. Yucel stated that climate policies such as carbon pricing and the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism are becoming decisive in trade. AHK Türkiye is analyzing how evolving EU industrial policies affect Turkish industry and supply chains, aiming to position Türkiye as a complementary partner in Europe’s green and digital transition.
Addressing Challenges and Enhancing Cooperation
The chamber is also working to address hurdles faced by Turkish investors in Germany, particularly in access to finance, and is advocating for streamlined visa processes for Turkish businesspeople through initiatives like the Business Fast Track program. Additionally, AHK Türkiye is collaborating with Turkish business organizations to modernize the EU-Türkiye Customs Union and ensure Türkiye’s integration into future-oriented industrial ecosystems.
