Hamas calls on US to halt Israeli Gaza strikes

Hamas has urged Washington and mediating nations to intervene as renewed Israeli attacks in Gaza violate a Türkiye-backed ceasefire. The group condemned strikes that killed dozens of Palestinians.
Hamas accused Israel on Wednesday of breaching the Sharm el-Sheikh ceasefire agreement through escalating airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, calling on the United States and other guarantor states to stop the offensive immediately.
Fresh violations of truce
In an official statement, the Palestinian resistance group said Israeli raids targeting the Daraj and Zeitoun districts of Gaza City, along with the al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis, have killed and wounded dozens of civilians. These actions, Hamas argued, represent “a further violation” of the October 2025 ceasefire and a continuation of Israel’s broader war on the enclave.
Call for international action
“The government of the terrorist occupation continues its brutal crimes against our people in the Gaza Strip under the cover of the ceasefire agreement, without facing any response capable of deterring these dangerous violations of the agreement and international humanitarian law,” Hamas said. The group specifically urged the US administration and the countries guaranteeing the Sharm el-Sheikh deal—which include Egypt, Qatar, the US, and Türkiye—to “act immediately to curb the fascist occupation and compel it to stop its aggression against innocent civilians.”

Deadly strikes on civilians
Earlier on Wednesday, at least five Palestinians, among them a police officer, were killed in separate Israeli attacks targeting two civilian groups and a police vehicle in northern and southern Gaza. In Beit Lahia, a woman sheltering in a tent camp was wounded by Israeli gunfire. Since the Sharm el-Sheikh truce took effect on Oct. 10, 2025, Israel has continued to violate the agreement, resulting in 837 Palestinian deaths and 2,381 injuries, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
Wider context of devastation
The current ceasefire followed a two-year Israeli military campaign that began on Oct. 8, 2023, which killed more than 72,000 Palestinians, wounded over 172,000, and destroyed approximately 90% of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure. Hamas has also called on the United Nations to take firm positions to protect Palestinians and stop what it termed the “Zionist killing machine.”
