Hamas delegation meets Malaysian officials to boost support for Palestine

A Hamas delegation held talks with Malaysian officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, to discuss support for the Palestinian cause. The discussions covered ongoing ceasefire negotiations, the humanitarian situation in Gaza, and ways to strengthen ties between the Palestinian group and Malaysia.
A delegation from Hamas met with Malaysian officials to explore ways to support the Palestinian cause, the group announced in a statement on Saturday. The visit aimed to strengthen ties with Malaysia, review developments in light of “ongoing Zionist aggression,” and discuss support for Palestinians amid continuing challenges. The delegation included Bassem Naim, a member of Hamas’s political bureau in Gaza; Fawzi Barhoum, deputy head of the group’s Arab and Islamic relations office; and Hamas’s representative in Malaysia.
Meeting with deputy prime minister
The statement said the discussions included “a series of meetings, foremost among them a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, along with a number of government officials, party representatives, and civil society organizations.” The talks also addressed ongoing negotiations to implement the ceasefire agreement and the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza resulting from continued violations of the truce.
Ceasefire violations continue
A ceasefire has been in effect in the Gaza Strip since October 2025, though Israel continues to violate it. The truce followed a two-year Israeli war on the Palestinian enclave that killed over 72,000 people and wounded more than 172,000 others. Malaysia has historically been a vocal supporter of the Palestinian cause and does not maintain diplomatic relations with Israel.
