Hamas to return remains of two Israeli hostages Tuesday evening

Hamas has announced it will hand over the remains of two Israeli hostages on Tuesday evening as part of the ongoing Gaza ceasefire agreement. The transfer is scheduled for 9 p.m. local time, continuing the prisoner-exchange process that has already seen the release of 20 living hostages.
The Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, stated on Tuesday that it will transfer the remains of two Israeli hostages later in the evening. The handover, scheduled for 9 p.m. local time (1800 GMT), is being conducted under the framework of the ceasefire agreement currently in effect in the Gaza Strip.
Ongoing Exchange Under Ceasefire Terms
This move represents a continuation of the phased prisoner-exchange process that has been a central component of the truce. Prior to this, Hamas had already released 20 living Israeli hostages and handed over the bodies of 14 other captives. In return, Israel has released nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners from its detention facilities.
The Broader Context of the Truce
The ceasefire agreement, which took effect on October 10, was based on a plan presented by US President Donald Trump. While these exchanges have provided a measure of relief for the families involved, the conflict has exacted a devastating human cost. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, Israel's military offensive since October 2023 has resulted in over 68,200 fatalities and more than 170,000 injuries in the Palestinian territory.
