Illegal Israeli settlers attack Palestinian vehicles in West Bank

Illegal Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian vehicles in the central West Bank village of Ein Yabroud on Saturday, with Israeli forces reportedly present. Simultaneously, the Israeli military closed all four entrances to Jericho, causing severe traffic disruption. These incidents occur amidst escalating violence and movement restrictions across the occupied territory.
A group of illegal Israeli settlers carried out an attack on Palestinian vehicles in the occupied West Bank on Saturday, underscoring the ongoing tension in the territory. The incident occurred in the village of Ein Yabroud, located east of Ramallah in the central West Bank, where settlers blocked a road and assaulted passing cars while Israeli security forces were present, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa. No injuries were reported from this specific attack.
Military Closures Paralyze Jericho
In a separate but concurrent development, the Israeli army imposed a full closure on the historic city of Jericho in the eastern West Bank. Eyewitnesses reported to Anadolu that soldiers shut all four major entrances to the city, leading to severe traffic gridlock and stranding hundreds of vehicles. The reason for the sudden closure was not officially disclosed. Some drivers attempting to use alternate dirt roads found them blocked by settlers, forcing them to turn back.
A Landscape of Restrictions and Violence
These events take place within a context of severe movement restrictions and escalating violence. According to Palestinian sources, Israel maintains over 900 permanent and temporary checkpoints across the West Bank, with more than 243 additional iron gates installed since the war on Gaza began in October 2023. This infrastructure severely limits Palestinian freedom of movement, often forcing residents to use multiple forms of transportation for basic travel.
Mounting Casualties and International Condemnation
The human cost of the occupation continues to rise. Palestinian figures state that since October 2023, Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 1,097 Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, injured nearly 11,000, and detained around 21,000. This violence persists despite a landmark opinion from the International Court of Justice last July, which declared Israel's occupation illegal and called for the evacuation of all West Bank and East Jerusalem settlements.
