Iran condemns US strikes, says Washington violated peace deal

The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Saturday condemned US strikes on its southern coastline as a violation of the UN Charter and a recently signed peace pact, vowing retaliatory action and urging Gulf states to deny aggressors access to their territory as the fragile 14-point agreement risks collapse.
Iran's Foreign Ministry on Saturday accused the United States of violating a recently signed peace agreement by launching strikes against coastal surveillance facilities along its southern shoreline, warning that such actions breach the UN Charter and justify further retaliation.
Strikes and condemnation
In a statement issued in Tehran, the ministry said US forces had targeted coastal surveillance facilities late Friday and reaffirmed Iran’s right to self-defense, noting that its armed forces had already conducted retaliatory strikes on US-linked targets. The ministry also urged Gulf states "to prevent any aggressor parties from using their territory and facilities to carry out acts of aggression" against the Islamic Republic.
It also called on the UN and international bodies "not to remain indifferent to the blatant violation" of international law, according to the statement. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said its naval forces had targeted US military positions across the region and vowed a harsh response if escalation continues.
Pact under pressure
Washington said its strikes came after accusing Tehran of orchestrating an attack on a commercial vessel transiting the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Earlier this month, Tehran and Washington reached a 14-point memorandum of understanding mediated by Pakistan, which entered into force on June 18 after being electronically signed by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump — an agreement now threatened by the weekend's violence.
