Iran fire death toll hits 11 at Tehran commercial hub

A fire at the Arghavan commercial complex in Andisheh, near Tehran, has killed 11 people and injured at least 41 others, Iranian officials confirmed Wednesday. The blaze spread rapidly due to the building’s composite facade. An investigation into the cause is ongoing.
The number of fatalities from a major fire west of Iran’s capital has climbed to 11, with dozens more wounded, local authorities reported on Wednesday. The blaze broke out Tuesday evening at the Arghavan complex in Phase 4 of Andisheh, a town near Tehran, according to Shahriar Governor Sajjad Baranji as cited by Mehr News Agency. The multi-story structure housed more than 250 retail units and 50 office spaces.
Rapid spread blamed on building materials
Emergency crews from Shahriar and surrounding districts arrived swiftly after the fire was reported and launched immediate firefighting operations, Baranji said. Of the 41 injured, some were transported to hospitals while others received treatment at the scene. The head of Andisheh’s Fire Department stated that all people trapped by flames and smoke had been safely evacuated and the building fully cleared. He attributed the fire’s fast escalation to the complex’s composite cladding, which allowed the blaze to race across the exterior. The cause remains under investigation.
