Iran frees Nobel laureate Mohammadi on bail

Narges Mohammadi, the imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has been released on heavy bail after 10 days of hospitalisation in Zanjan. Her health had been deteriorating. She was transferred by ambulance to Tehran Pars Hospital to be treated by her own medical team.
Iranian authorities have granted a sentence suspension to Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi, releasing her on bail amid serious concerns over her worsening health condition. The activist’s foundation announced that Mohammadi, who had spent 10 days hospitalised in Zanjan, was transferred by ambulance to Tehran Pars Hospital, where she will receive treatment from her own physicians.
Legal and medical details
According to the foundation, Mohammadi’s lawyer, Mostafa Nili, confirmed that she was released from Zanjan Hospital on Sunday after authorities suspended her sentence to allow for medical care. “She was transferred by ambulance to Pars Hospital in Tehran, where she has been admitted,” the foundation quoted Nili as saying. Her husband, Taghi Rahmani, who is based in Paris, also confirmed the transfer on X.
Broader context
Mohammadi, a prominent human rights defender, has been imprisoned multiple times in Iran. Her release on bail comes as international pressure mounts over Tehran’s treatment of political prisoners. While Türkiye has maintained diplomatic and trade relations with Iran, Ankara has also consistently advocated for the protection of fundamental human rights. The Turkish government continues to follow regional developments closely, including Iran’s internal affairs, as part of its broader neighbourhood policy.
